Danish Distance-Based Road Toll & Legal
Danish Distance-Based Road Toll & Legal Developments
Denmark is actively enforcing its distance-based, CO₂-differentiated road toll for vehicles over 12 tonnes across approximately 10,900 km of roads. Standard heavy diesel combinations above 32 tonnes, Euro VI and CO₂ Class 1 are charged 1.10 DKK/km, with a 50% surcharge in designated Low Emission Zones.
Automated enforcement applies fines ranging from 2,000 to 9,000 DKK, depending on the violation, while penalties are generally limited to one per vehicle within a 24-hour period.
The Danish government is also consulting on extending the toll system to vehicles between 3.5 and 12 tonnes, with the current hearing expected to close in mid-October. This could significantly broaden the number of commercial vehicles subject to distance-based tolling in Denmark.
